A BIKE rider has been flown to a hospital in Newcastle for specialist treatment after a fall near Tamworth on Sunday morning.

The 31-year-old was riding his trail bike in the Nundle State Forest, just east of Nundle, when he crashed about midday.
Ambulance NSW was told the rider fell off the bike and suffered serious leg injuries.
Paramedics were deployed into the forest to treat the patient, while the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked from Tamworth because of the difficult and remote location.

It landed nearby and the chopper's medical team on board assessed the man's serious leg injuries.
He was then flown straight to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle where it's expected he will undergo surgery.
The man was listed in a stable condition, a spokesperson said.
On Saturday, the helicopter was called to a motorbike rider who suffered serious injuries when he crashed south of Glen Innes on the New England Highway.
