The Farrer Angus stud is operated by the Year 11 and 12 Certificate III in Agriculture students from Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School. The aim of the stud is to provide the students with learning experiences in the management of a commercially run beef enterprise.
Students are able to gain a higher level of knowledge and learn practical skills relating to the operation of Stud and Commercial cattle enterprises, with bulls that are suited to a variety of markets and carry superior structure, fertility, growth and EBV's. Over the past several years Farrer students have been in high demand for employment throughout the Northern Cattle industry which is directly attributed to the success of the Beef Production program so far.
This year, Farrer Angus will have 33 top quality, industry focused bulls for sale. The Farrer bulls are progeny of leading Australian and American sires including, Topbos Leading Edge L292, VAR Discovery, Baldridge Beast Mode B074, Esslemont Lotto L3, Hazeldean Leura L14, Rennylea L508, Clunie Range Legend L348, Pathfinder Komplete K22 and Clunie Range King Kong K630.
The bulls have been prepared on a grazing oat crop and present in excellent condition. They display tremendous growth and muscle definition combined with structural correctness. They have impressive EBVS with over 90 per cent of the bulls having TACE Breedplan figures in the Top 20 per cent of the Angus Breed.
Farrer Bulls are regularly handled by the students with leading industry experts brought in to assist in collecting data and updating students on the technology available to cattle producers. All bulls are fully vaccinated for 7 in1, Pestivirus, Vibro & 3 Day Sickness and are semen tested by Piper St Vet Clinic.
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the 2020 Farrer Angus sale will be conducted ONLINE only, through AuctionsPlus. It is hoped to lot up the bulls at Farrer on sale day, with limited numbers of registered buyers onsite, so that we may assist any clients with the AuctionsPlus process and online bidding. If you would like to take up this option, please contact Marty Peeters on 0428 686 738 to be allocated a seat. This will be in accordance to NSW COVID-19 restrictions and is subject to change at any time.
The sale is on Wednesday, June 24 starting at 12pm. Inspection prior to sale is encouraged, with the sale operated as a Helmsman sale - where all lots are for sale simultaneously. Farrer believes this system is a low stress way of allowing clients to purchase bulls, when compared to the traditional auction system. Anyone who would like to inspect the bulls is encouraged to contact Marty Peeters on 0428 686 738 to arrange an inspection via appointment. An added bonus is Farrer provide free transport for bulls within 300 kilometres.
