Tamworth Hockey Association president Mark O'Connor said the news of the proposed July start to the season has put a "real spring" in the local hockey fraternity's step.

While that could be subject to change pending public health restrictions, O'Connor said it is "very welcome news".
"At this stage the world is so uncertain that we don't know what's around the corner but it's a really encouraging sign that we've got that date to work towards and that's given everybody a real spring in their step," O'Connor said.
He said they will take a bit of pause before starting the process of formulating structures for the various competitions.
"We've got some time between now and when it starts, to do some proper planning," he said.
"We're very fortunate in Tamworth because we've got the exclusive use of the facilities so we can run comps that are modified."

Not having to accommodate for other sports that use the facilities, they have the luxury of playing mid-week games or even extending the competitions later than they would normally run if the need be.
The addition of a third field, which is currently under construction, also gives them a lot more flexibility and options.
O'Connor said they are in the "home stretch" as far as the expansion works.
"There's rubber going down on the new surface now, the lights are in, the buildings are 90 per cent complete," he said.
"So it's all really really coming together nicely and I think it will tie in very well with our season start when we get away."
