The woman was placed on life support after the accident in Bingara, while her son was listed in a satisfactory condition.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Bingara, just after 4.15pm to reports of a mother and son suffering serious burns.
An 84-year-old woman suffered significant burns to her upper body, while her son suffered burns to his hand when he went to help his mother.

The Westpac helicopter said the accident happened when the woman was cleaning her kitchen. It's understood the cleaning product she was using ignited, causing burns to her upper body.
The pair were rushed by paramedics to Bingara hospital and the chopper tasked from Tamworth.
The woman was placed on life support and airlifted to a specialist burns unit in Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. She was listed in a serious but stable condition.
The man remained in a satisfactory condition in hospital on Thursday night.
