The city, which still has just 12 cases of the deadly pandemic disease, has no outstanding cases with an unknown source of infection.

Statistics released on Sunday show the virus has not spread through the Northern Tablelands and North West regions. Tamworth has not recorded a new case of coronavirus since March 30. Gunnedah still has at least one case.

The Hunter New England health district has detected 270 cases of COVID-19 in the region - up one.

Nine coronavirus patients are being cared for in Hunter New England hospitals, with three in ICU. Two patients have recovered from the virus in the last day, bringing the total number of recoveries to 173.

Health workers have tested 14,311 people in the region for the virus.

A 69-year-old man died in Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital on Thursday, the region's second fatality.

The state's virus tally actually declined in the latest statistics, with 2,847 confirmed cases of the pandemic disease.

Nine patients tested in NSW are residents of the ACT or Queensland, and have been subtracted from the state total. Another case was a false positive.

An 82-year-old male with pre-existing medical conditions died in hospital on Saturday, bringing the state fatality tally to 24. He was a household contact of a confirmed case.

As of 8pm on Saturday, there were 218 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. This includes 30 cases in intensive care units, with 21 of those patients on a ventilator.
