The 203 centimetre, 90 kilogram forward-cum-centre is back home in Tamworth after his debut season of division two NCAA college ball with Salem University, in West Virginia, was cut short by Covid-19.
He arrived home on March 9, in time he thought for the Thunderbolts' season opener away to Newcastle.
But the Waratah League was suspended due the coronavirus before the clash.
McGann is now trying to stay as fit as possible while self-isolating, waiting for the day he can resume playing.
He had previously spent two seasons playing ball at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois. But Salem University - who offered him a scholarship - was a step up in class.

"[I] had to meet a whole bunch of new people, which was great. [I] met some really good friends and teammates there. And everyone was welcoming and inviting. Yeah, it was really good."
He added: "We had a great season. We went 18 and eight. And that was the best record in the last 10 years, or something like that [at Salem]."
McGann started most games in the first half of the season (he missed two games with a thumb injury). The second half of the season was less successful for him. "But that's all right," he said, adding: "Next year is gonna be a big year for me."
