A TAMWORTH teenager is behind bars, accused of grooming and sexually abusing two 13-year-old girls in separate incidents last year.
The Child Abuse Squad arrested the 18-year-old man at Tamworth police station this week, after investigations into the alleged incidents.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was denied bail in Tamworth Local Court this week by magistrate Julie Soars.
Detectives allege the 18-year-old sexually abused a 13-year-old girl that was known to him at a home in Bowraville in November 2019.
During their investigations, detectives allegedly uncovered evidence that the same man groomed another 13-year-old girl through social media, a month earlier.
He's facing charges of having sexual intercourse with child aged between 10 and 14 years; meet child under 14 years and groom for sexual activity; as well as custody of knife in public place.
He was not required to enter pleas to the charges and and the matter will return to court in Kempsey in May.
The investigation was launched by the Child Abuse Squad in Coffs Harbour, who travelled to Tamworth.
