We're seeing things we've never seen before, a massive increase in the jobless rate; businesses shutting their doors for who knows how long.
The rules are changing almost by the minute. The time limit on hairdressers is a pretty good example of what I mean here.
Locally our council is on the front foot. I have to say they've done a tremendous job getting the message out to locals to do the right thing. They've acted decisively, with purpose.
The latest move will see play parks closed to the public. And police are promising to fine anyone caught doing the wrong thing. It's disappointing to think there are still some people who aren't taking this situation seriously.
We're into unchartered territory here, scary territory. All we ask of everyone in our community is please, please, please do the right thing.
There was a great poster doing the rounds on Facebook recently that said something along the lines of 'Your grandparents were asked to go to war, you're being asked to sit on your couch. We can do this'.
Staff at the Northern Daily Leader have been working from home where possible, to help maintain our 'social distance'.
We've committed to bringing you the most up to date information about this pandemic. And that won't change.
We're also here to support local businesses.
ARE YOU OPEN FOR BUSINESS?
With so many changes happening, The Northern Daily Leader has created a form where businesses can enter their details to inform NDL readers of how owners and managers are now running their stores and shops.
For more information and to fill out the form click here.
You can do your bit by supporting those local businesses that are still operating.
On that note, make the most of your time at home with family. Personally, I have stocked up on Lego and colouring books (and wine) but don't tell anyone!
cheers
