The crisis has seen an overload of information, and Cr Murray said there was a need for a "central point".
"It provides a direct access to the absolutely up-to-date and reliable information."
Information about essential services can be found on the council's directory, including supermarkets, health services, fuel stations and pharmacies,
It also links to a community directory called 'We Love It', where businesses like cafes and restaurants can create a free listing to keep people posted on what they're doing.
"Our team will be relying on businesses to let us know if and when anything changes for them," Cr Murray said.
"This will have a really, really serious impact on our economy ... if we use these opportunities and be really innovative ... we can keep that impact to a minimum."
The council directory can be found at www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/tradingintamworth; the community directory can be found at www.weloveit.com.au.
Council recommends businesses use #TradinginTamworth when posting on social media.
