I've been washing my hands for more than half a century now, well give or take a few years when my mum did it for me, but I'm pretty across the technique. Or at least I'd like to think that I am.
The video of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson singing Happy Birthday while washing his hands recently, sent me into a bit of a spin.
Mind you the fact that he left the tap running while he did it was also a bit at odds with our water conservation message at this point, so I'm not totally sure what to do with that.
Water waste aside, (or perhaps that just explains the run on hand sanitiser) do we really need to be told how to wash our hands? Is that what we have come to? Does it mean our hygiene standards have slipped so dramatically? All questions that I suppose will be answered as this pandemic develops.
The cancellation of the Melbourne Grand Prix has perhaps opened the door, with a slew of events either cancelled or postponed in the wake of Friday's announcement. (Albeit a disappointingly late one where fans were concerned)
We'd like to think, living in regional areas, we have this little buffer zone around us. Keeping us safe.
But with news of three confirmed coronavirus cases in the Orange district, that's been blown out of the water.
Here in the country we pride ourselves on our 'connectedness'.
Is that all going to change? I'd like to think not. I'd like to think we would still look out for our more vulnerable neighbours. I'd like to think those in need in our community won't go begging. But it's up to us.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday,
Fiona
