The Nations Cup is contested by teams of four from Australia, the United States, Mexico, Israel, Ireland, Colombia, Canada, Chile and Brazil over two rounds in the US.
Not only did they land a spot on the podium against the world's best showjumpers, but earned Australia qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Now based in the United Kingdom, Willis spent some of his childhood in Warialda before moving to Armidale where he attended The Armidale School.
Willis is the highest-ranked Australian on the FEI World Rankings for showjumping at 47th, with three-time Olympian Edwina Tops-Alexander the next highest at 151st.
He and superstar of his stable Blue Movie, more fondly known as Carrots, are vying for a spot in the Australian team for Tokyo.
The 14-year-old mare is owned by Willis, as well as Armidale and surrounds residents in his parents David and Elsa, sister Renee, Warren Coventry and Black Mountain's Wendy and Michael Jackson.
