Annastacia Palaszczuk will hold the statewide meeting at the end of March.

It follows the horrific murder of Hannah Clarke and her three children in the Brisbane suburb of Camp Hill last week.

Ms Palaszczuk made the announcement about the summit at the first meeting of the Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Council in Brisbane on Friday.

"We will not, we will not stop when it comes to tackling issues surrounding domestic and family violence," she said.

But Ms McGrath, the council co-chair, was hesitant to support the event.

"I'm loathed to see another talkfest," she said.

"I think there's a lot of talking going on."

Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington proposed a suite of tough new laws for offenders earlier this week, including doubling the jail term for strangulation from seven to 14 years.

Ms McGrath said while the goal ultimately was to eliminate domestic violence, all policies had to be evidence-based and well-considered.

"It's vital that we don't put women and children more at risk," she said.

Council co-chair and former police commissioner Bob Atkinson said he hoped the deaths of Ms Clarke and her children at the hands of her estranged husband would galvanise everyone into taking more action to stop domestic violence.

"We can change and we can improve," he said.

"The goal has to be that one incidence of domestic violence is one too many."

Ms Palaszczuk reaffirmed her earlier stance that she would not engage in a political debate about the issue until after the Clarke family's funerals.

But she did say all ideas, including those proposed by the LNP, would be "on the table" at the summit.
