The Australian Miniature Horse Society National Championships kicked off on Wednesday bringing together some of Australia's best.

While numbers are down - there's 240 entrants this year compared to the usual 300-odd - the quality was still high, AMHS vice president Janeane McConnell said.
"It's a little bit down to what we normally have because of the drought and fires," she said.

The championships will continue over the weekend and wrap up on Sunday which is also the day when the kids get to shine.
The kids events will run on the last day of competition and there will also be some locals featuring.
"We have some kids from Tamworth Equine Assisted Therapy coming to show on Sunday morning," Ms McConnell said.
"We cater for all the special needs kids so they can come out and have a bit of fun."
Horses and ponies of a range of sizes will be on show in a number of different events including showjumping, hunter and harness amongst others.
Entry is free to the championships and the doors open around 8.30am each morning.
The Australian Miniature Horse Society National Championships will finish at 2pm Sunday.
