Narrabri Eagles president Tom Carberry said it was a "difficult decision" to form a senior team joint venture with the Moree Suns for the 2020 season, but believes "it's in the best interest for the club for the future."

The joint venture was formalised last Friday, and while the operational logistics are still to be finalised, it's hoped the joint venture will benefit both clubs and make them stronger.
Carberry said ideally they would like to put their own team forward but knows this is the best move for the club.
"At the end of the day we want to make our own team and have our own identity without having to go into a joint venture with another team," he said.
"I think everyone takes pride in their own team. But it's better than going into recess again for the rest of the year.

"This is just one of the rebuilding phases.
"I don't think there's going to be anything negative coming out of this year.
"I think both clubs are going to benefit. I think it should be a good year for both of us."
Carberry believes the joint venture should also benefit the competition as a whole and make it stronger.
The joint venture will be a 12 month agreement, before reevaluating at the end of the season for 2021 and beyond.
"We'll just see how this year goes and see what next year brings," Carberry said.
"Hopefully both teams have generated more interest and increased their numbers."
