By 6pm, Tamworth airport recorded more than 21mm; while Qurindi had 22mm; and Gunnedah airport notched more than 6mm in the gauge.
Although these were the official readings from the BoM, locals recorded much more in their gauges with heavy rain falling in localised areas.
The wet weather caused chaos for locals trying to get home as water continued to swallow roads.
The Kamilaroi Highway near Quirindi was closed after a rock slide. The road was then closed again at Curlewis due to flooding.
The Oxley Highway about 13km west of Tamworth also saw flooding.
