Kira-Lea Dargin has been chosen as the keynote speaker for Liverpool Plains Shire Council's (LPSC) annual event on March 13 at the Royal Theatre Quirindi.

Ms Dargin, of the Wiradjuri tribe, lives with Lupus SLE, is a mother of three, and a university student who has played across a range of football codes.

"Kira-Lea stands as an inspiration to all. Despite her illness, she has played across a range of football codes including AFL, rugby league, rugby anion, oz tag and gridiron," LPSC mayor Andrew Hope said.

"In 2019, she became the first Indigenous female professional American football gridiron athlete to debut in the USA, and the first Australian in history invited to play for team USA All Stars."

This year's theme for International Women's Day 2020 is "each for equal" and Cr Hope said residents can "actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements" and "help create a gender equal world".
