Tamworth residents are embracing the prospect of free travel.
More than 1170 eligible seniors have already applied for a Regional Seniors Transport card; a pre-loaded $250 card which can be spent on taxis, fuel or pre-booked NSW TrainLink services.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the card would help to ease the cost of travel for some of our most vulnerable residents.
"This is great news for our seniors who live in regional centres like Nundle, Werris Creek, Barraba, Manilla, Bendemeer as well as larger centres like Tamworth and Gunnedah, because we have a real plan to improving connectivity in the bush," Mr Anderson said.
Applications are now open through Service NSW.The card will be posted to seniors, and the PIN will follow a few days later. The card will remain valid for 12 months.
To be eligible for the Seniors Transport Card applicants must be an age pensioner with a valid Pensioner Concession Card or hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card issued by either the Department of Human Services or Department of Veterans' Affairs.
