You stand back and watch because things are going to happen!
Suzanne Holloway was such a person. The mother of three teenage boys and married to Mark, a TAFE teacher, Suzanne grew up in a Christian family. Her childhood was shaped by church, Sunday School and youth group. When children came along, the idea arose to start a young mums' group. She prayed about it and off it went.
In 2002, she started teaching Scripture and leading a home Bible study. She became a lay preacher at her church. In 2012, there was a call for school chaplains, so Suzanne did the training and became the first chaplain to Tamworth South Public School.
Suzanne explains, "I've always wrestled with God, in seeking to understand Who He is and who I am in His purposes. I don't just read the Bible but challenge it and apply what it says to a middle class western culture. I've learned to accept who I am and that God loves me and is changing my values and attitudes to people."
Two years ago, Suzanne was invited to be the lay ministry leader of Southside Uniting Church. It was a big step up, but Suzanne's passion for God and compassion for people have driven her.
"I like to inspire others to have a go in ministry because it's what happened to me. I observe people and get to admire their gifts and enthusiasm."
Now the next step has been revealed. A moving service at Southside last Sunday gave thanks for Suzanne and prayed for her as she studies for full-time ministry.
She says, "I want to know Him, to be the best I can for Him".
