The two-day Walcha Cup Carnival, which has almost $250,000 in prizemoney for the 13 races, has attracted 218 nominations, 141 of them for Friday's Cup meeting.
The $35,000 Elders Walcha Cup (1440m) attracted 20 nominations alone with the likes of Inverell Cup runner-up Free Billy (Inverell) and Ayham (Glen Innes) included.
The Shane Edmonds-trained Free Billy is topweight with 60.5kg after winning 16 of his 78 starts and $219,175 in prizemoney.
Armidale trainer Stirling Osland has nominated last start Tamworth winner Heaven's High and New Endeavour in the Cup while Gunnedah's Gavin Groth also two Cup nominations - Redemption Road and Malzoom.
While Walcha's Friday fields are strong Tamworth Jockey Club fared well for Monday's meeting, attracting 108 nominations for the seven races, although due to insufficient nominations in the Class 1 & Maiden Plate (2100m) the race has been cancelled.
Nominations have been extended to 11am Wednesday for all of the remaining races in the hope of attracting a few more to round out a program headed by the $22,000 Carlton United Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000m) and the $22,000 Thread Effects Benchmark 58 Handicap (1400m).
They have drawn 16 and 12 nominations respectively for a meeting that could be affected by rain.
"They have forecast a fair bit of rain but the last time they did we only got 30m," TJC track manager Lindsay Bowne said
He said the track is in good order after the recent rain and will race well dependent on what rain arrives this week.
