With stores located in Glen Innes and Inverell, people can drop by to purchase a pair of Humphrey Law woollen socks for just $10 that will be distributed to active RFS members.
The Premier Store's owner David Ferris said RFS volunteers are issued outer garments and boots as part of their uniform, but have the pay for their own socks to wear on the fire front.
"During the Tingha fires I was contacted to see if I could donate a bulk supply of socks and undies for RFS volunteers, particularly for those out of the district who did not bring enough supplies.
"I was only too happy to help and that got me thinking with the recent fires in Glen Innes and Inverell areas, how could The Premier Store show its appreciation and give items in need directly to local RFS personnel?," he said.
With the assistance of Humphrey Law, The Premier Store aim to supply all Inverell and Glen Innes active RFS members with at least two pairs of socks.
The store has already purchased and facilitated gaining 400 pairs and hope around 200 more can be donated by local residents and visitors.
To add a personal touch, those who donate a pair can add an appreciation message to the pair of socks which will remain pinned to the item for RFS volunteer to read.
"If people wish to help with the campaign, they can purchase specifically chosen Australian-made woollen socks at a subsidised price of $10. These socks will go into a donation bin at The Premier Stores in Glen Iness and Inverell and be distributed directly to our local RFS volunteers," Mr Ferris said.
'Beat the heat and save our firies' feet' is the slogan created by the lovely staff of The Premier Store. For more information, head in store.
