Bulldogs men's coach Doug Meagher said the club was hoping for a good turnout.
"We had a meeting a few days ago and we were of the opinion we have 12 to 17 players lined up for this year," Meagher told the Leader.
"While that is a good base for us to work from, there is still a long way to go to ensure it gets off the ground.
"There's been a lot of interest beyond that base, so hopefully we can see some new faces and really get set for a big year."
Meagher said other clubs in the competition had offered their support to the Bulldogs.
"I recently spoke to Shannon Campbell from the Tamworth Roos and she said she would be organising a few of their players to come over and lend a hand," he said.
"We have also made contact with the Tamworth Swans as well, so hopefully they are going to send a few players over too.
"The guys from AFL North West are coming across as well, so it's shaping up to be a great day.
"The whole session will be run by women for women and I'm confident it will be a great environment."
Several of the club's players have recently been plying their trade in Tamworth's AFL 9s competition, which Meagher said had helped progress the club's hopes for a women's team.
"There's no doubt the 9s competition has brought new people to the game," he said.
"It's been a lot of fun and we're hoping to capitalise on that momentum.
"We've been given a lot of breathing room from the AFL North West to get this going, so hopefully we can get a good turnout on Saturday and really get the ball rolling.
"A lot of hard work has gone into this and we're really confident of making it work.
"If there is anyone out there that is keen on coming along, experience in the game is not required and our club has a great atmosphere."
Saturday's come and try day will begin from 10am.
