The Buckleys are proof of that.
The teenage trio burst onto the country scene in the last six months after years of busking on Peel Street at Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Nominated for a Qantas New Talent of the Year award at the Golden Guitars, singer Sarah Buckley said it's been a surreal couple of months.
"It's really incredible, we grew up with a long hustle behind the scenes playing in our local area and travelling to festivals since I was 11 and Molly was nine," she said.
The trio, made up of Sarah on lead vocals and guitar, Molly on vocals, mandolin and piano, and Lachlan on electric guitar didn't know anyone when they first arrived in Nashville.
A chance meeting with a bartender landed them their first gig.

"One of the important things for us is to hopefully inspire young people to start learning instruments and do what they want," Sarah said.
The Buckleys will perform at The Longyard Hotel on January 24 from 5pm.
