Vandals broke into last night, broke glass, threw rubbish in the pool and damaged it.

Tamworth Regional Council confirmed the pool would not open today but couldn't say whether it would reopen again tomorrow as the extent of the damage was still being assessed.

Staff are at the pool today hurriedly cleaning up the mess so it can be reopened as soon as possible. It is expected to at least take a day.

The pool had only recently reopened after a series of unexpected hold-ups, including a water leak, saw the pool reopen after the winter break later than usual.

Anyone with information surrounding the break-in is urged to contact the police.
