Tamworth Regional Council began stabilisation works on Daruka Road earlier this month and were expected to finish the job on Monday.
However, the road has now reopened after the works were finished on Friday.
But motorists using the Port Stephens Cutting will need to allow extra time because of extra works.

Council has advised that tree works are taking place on Nowendoc Road at the cutting for up to two weeks.
The works will begin on Monday at the top of the cutting. Traffic controls will be in place.
Meanwhile, the New England Highway will be reduced to one lane on the edge of Glen Innes from Monday.
The road will be closed between Heron Street and MacKenzie Street, south of town, from January 20.
The RMS expects the essential maintenance work will be finished by January 25.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane with alternative flow controls in place as well as reduced speed limits, for the safety of workers and drivers.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the direction of signs and traffic controllers.
