A man and a woman were in custody on Wednesday night at Tamworth police station after their arrests in Phillip Street earlier in the day.
The pair had not been charged but were being questioned about their alleged involvement in a short pursuit with police, who had been patrolling West Tamworth.
"Police were patrolling the area as part of Operation Rapidus and detected the vehicle in question before a pursuit was initiated when it failed to stop," Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy said.

"Number plates suspected of being stolen have been seized, along with other property from the vehicle that is the subject of further investigations.
"A man and a woman, both from Tamworth, are currently assisting police with their inquiries."
Operation Rapidus is an Oxley police-driven high-visibility blitz, in which officers from all policing units saturate a town as part of a proactive policing strategy.
"The operation on Wednesday involved general duties police, Target Action Group officers, detectives, Region Enforcement Squad, highway patrol and senior officers," Detective Darcy said.
"The incident is another example of the amount of policing resources we are putting on the street, and Operation Rapidus continues to be successful in disrupting and preventing criminal activity."
Man charged with receiving stolen goods
Meanwhile, another man has been refused bail after he was arrested in Coledale on Wednesday morning.
Matthew Cubby appeared in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday on charges of aggravated break-and-enter while people were home, and receiving stolen goods.
Police allege he was in possession of stolen goods connected to a break-and-enter at a Susanne Street home overnight on Tuesday.
A silver Lexus car, keys and a handbag were stolen. Police were investigating the break-in when they intercepted the Lexus at 3.30am in Sue Crescent.
A pursuit was initiated and the car crashed into a gutter before the male driver fled on foot in Flemming Crescent.
After investigations, Cubby was arrested at 11.30am and questioned in connection to the break-in and the chase. He has not been charged with police pursuit, but police said investigations are continuing.
Cubby did not enter pleas to the charges and made no application for bail, which was refused by magistrate Mark Richardson.
Cubby will remain in custody until March as police prepare a brief of evidence.
