After steering the side to the grand final last season, in his second year at the helm, Sharpe said his role as mentor of Australia's over-50 men's oztag team at the 2021 World Cup in Ireland meant he could not continue at the Roosters beyond 2020.
As for his replacement, he said: "I don't know; we'll see what happens."
North Tamworth won a record sixth consecutive grand final when they beat Kooty 40-4 in the grand final last season.

Sharpe said the Roosters had had "a couple" of preseason training sessions to date.
He said the side's official preseason training would commence in late January.
"The comp's not gonna start till May, from what [Group 4 chairman] Ray McCoy's tellin' me," he said.
"So, we've got two sessions planned in January as well, just to get the fellas together and start to move forward.
"But, traditionally, I don't like to start too early. But I've noticed all the other clubs have started.
"So, we've added a couple of session here and there for the young fellas."
In 2020, the Roosters will be without two of their best players from last season: prop Chris Vidler (retired) and fullback Jack Rumsby (relocated to Newcastle).
However, Sharpe said: "If we can retain the majority of the young fellas I had [last season], which I'm confident of doing, then we'll be competitive."
He believes that the side will be more stable than last season, with No 7 Sam Taylor "steering the side around the park".
