The family-favourite has been named in Australia's top kid-friendly tourist attractions, in a Budget Direct look at thousands of TripAdvisor reviews from across the country.

The marsupial park was named alongside Port Macquarie's Koala Hospital, Sydney Harbour and the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

Friends of Tamworth Marsupial Park president John McDarmont said he knew the park was among the top attractions in the city, but to be named alongside the country's best was a welcome surprise.

"We get plenty of people through now and the majority, probably more than two-thirds are from out of Tamworth and overseas," he said.

"I think the fact that it's a natural environment, it's free and the facilities are upgraded make it as good as anywhere else.

Volunteers celebrated a decade of hard work at the park this year.
