Geoffrey Keaton, 32, and Andrew O'Dwyer, 36, from the Horsley Park brigade were killed on Thursday when a tree fell into their path, causing the vehicle to roll off the road.
Tamworth Rural Fire Service was one of many to fly their flag at half-mast as a sign of respect on Friday.
The loss of life was a sad reminder of how dangerous the job can be, Tamworth RFS Inspector Steve Prior said.
"The way we look at each other is that we're family," he said.
"Some of us are actually family, if you thought of us as all being second cousins to each other it's that close.
"The loss of life will have carry on effects to their immediate families, close friends, work colleagues and local communities."
The two men who passed away were fathers of young children and unfortunately died at the scene.
