The closure is due to fires that have flared up in a number of locations in the Cottan-Bimbang National Park and Cells State Conservation area.
The road is currently closed at Kangaroo Flat Rd, 55km east of Walcha with a traffic control team on the eastern end of the Walcha town to providing additional warnings to the travelling public.
The road was partially opened at noon yesterday following its closure for several weeks while bushfire damage was being repaired.
Between Ralfes Trail and Gingers Creek, only one lane of the highway was open under stop/slow traffic control and strict traffic management.
Motorists were escorted through this section of the highway, and needed to allow extra travel time and take extra care through the area.
Repair work is expected to continue for several weeks into 2020 and it is not known when the Oxley Highway will reopen again under these controlled conditions.
Walcha businesses and Gingers Creek proprietor Gary Hartas had been eagerly anticipating traffic once again beginning to flow from Walcha along the Oxley Highway to the coast - albeit under strict traffic management.
There has been a dramatic drop in visitors to the town and business in general with both the Oxley Highway closure and the Thunderbolts Way closure for 10 days straight last month and then sporadically since.
