About 4.40pm on Wednesday, police were chasing a Holden Colorado through Tamworth when, due to its erratic driving, the pursuit was terminated.
Numerous police vehicles continued patrolling the area when they noticed a black Holden Captiva allegedly driving dangerously in Edgeroy Street.
Police activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the car before they alleged it turned on them, and drive directly towards officers who had to swerve to avoid a collision.
Police continued to follow the Captiva along Edward Street where it pulled into Vera Street and crashed into another car that was parked in the driveway of the home.
As a result of the crash, both vehicles erupted in flames.
Police said the driver of the Captiva got out of the car and ran from police allegedly attempting to steal a parked motorcycle.
His attempts were unsuccessful, and he then tried to get into a stationary police vehicle, officers claim.
Police then tried to arrest the man, where a struggle ensued. Officers said they were forced to deploy capsicum spray and a taser to subdue the man.
The 37-year-old man was taken to Tamworth hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital under police guard.
Oxley police confirmed three of its officers were injured during the arrest. They were all treated at Tamworth hospital and have since been released.
Officers were investigating the alleged crime spree that ended in Vera Street when they were approached by a man and a woman who told police they were threatened by a man with a knife while demoing their black Holden Captiva.
Police said it is now believed to have been stolen after the victims complied with the mans demands and got out of the vehicle as he drove away on Roberts Street, near Woodward Avenue.
They pair were not harmed.
Detectives are investigating the incident and would like to speak with any witnesses who saw the Holden Captiva being driven on Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, a second man has been arrested in connection to the first pursuit in South Tamworth.
Police will allege he was involved in the initial pursuit of the Holden Colorado on Wednesday afternoon.
He was arrested and is assisting police with their inquiries. He has not been charged.
Police said they do not believe the pursuit are connected.
