The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is expecting Tamworth's smoky air quality to remain for the next three days.
As well as extreme temperatures, fire crews will also be bracing for a chance of thunderstorms throughout the hot spell.
The expected conditions will make life difficult for crews battling the Rockview fire near Barraba and the Bengala Creek blaze near Tenterfield, which is still at a watch-and-act alert level.
Temperatures are expected to ease on Friday, when BOM is predicting Tamworth to reach a top of 31, followed by 29 on Saturday and 31 on Sunday.
