Former NBA guard Rice was "indefinitely suspended" by the Kiwi club three weeks ago but will play in Friday night's match against the Taipans in Cairns following a BA investigation into his actions.

Rice was charged with injuring with intent in an incident outside an Auckland bar last month.

The son of three-time NBA All-Star Glen Rice pleaded not guilty and was released on bail and will face court again in February. The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

BA's integrity unit completed its investigation this week and found the 28-year-old warranted no further punishment than the club-imposed suspension.

Breakers owner Matt Walsh's comments when announcing the suspension suggested Rice wouldn't play for the club again.

However, he said BA's findings were the green light needed to reinstate a skilful guard he rates as "possibly the best player ever to take the court in the NBL".

"Glen has done everything we have asked from a club perspective and the team is excited to have him back," Walsh said.

"The legal process is ongoing but we are confident of a speedy resolution."

Aware of the likelihood of his suspension being lifted, Rice trained with the team on Thursday before flying to Cairns.

BA said the matter had been referred to an independent hearing panel.

It said in a statement it reserved the right to comment further following the outcome of the February court hearing.

Rice's initial recruitment drew criticism in New Zealand because of his previous brushes with the law in the United States and disciplinary issues at various teams.

He played just two games before his arrest, impressing with 26 points against Melbourne United and 18 in the first half against South East Melbourne Phoenix before rolling an ankle.
