It unfolded at about 1.30pm on Wednesday when a QantasLink flight bound for Armidale Regional Airport reported a malfunction with its landing gear.
The emergency was triggered when the pilot radioed Tamworth air traffic controllers advising a light in the cockpit indicated the landing gear of the aircraft had not deployed correctly.
The Q300 50-seater aircraft later safely landed at about 2.17pm after approaching from the west and using the 12L runway.

Tamworth Regional Council said the flight was diverted to Tamworth Regional Airport because it has a crew of Qantas Dash-8 maintenance engineers on site.
Air traffic control staff alerted authorities, who pulled the trigger for the emergency response.
Police, ambulance, five crews from Fire and Rescue NSW, a Rural Fire Service (RFS) and a fire tender from BAE Flight Training were soon on the scene.
After landing, all passengers disembarked without need for medical attention.
A coach service was provided to transport the passengers to Armidale airport, council confirmed.
Council airport manager Julie Stewart said it was ''a textbook'' emergency.
"All our training and preparation came into play," Ms Stewart said.
"Lessons learnt from previous emergency scenario training with local emergency services and airport teams meant we had a smooth and well-managed emergency response."
