The council has only narrowly missed out on being named number one when it comes to blood donation, as part of a national challenge involving 236 councils from across Australia.
The challenge, part of the Blood Service Red25 program, saw a total of more than 6,400 blood donations throughout the months of July, August and September.
Tamworth's effort was enough to secure second place, with 360 donations.
Advocates Sarah Wallace, Nicole Cowan, Adrian Cameron and John Wall were also recognised for their efforts to promote the challenge.
"Tamworth Council's commitment to saving lives is incredible, to have helped saved more than 1000 lives in three months is an achievement they can be extremely proud of," Blood Service spokesperson, Linda Rendal-Jones, said.
