Tamworth RSL sub-branch president Jayne McCarthy was happy with the crowd numbers.
"Particularly given it was a work day, not a school holiday and not a public holiday," Ms McCarthy said.
"I was very pleased with how it all went, and grateful for those who contributed in some small way. We're all volunteers at the sub-branch, and it takes time and effort to make it all happen."
Tamworth High School student Halen Godley gave the commemorative address and Ms McCarthy said he spoke very well.
"I put Halen on spot a little bit and asked him what peaked his interest in doing the present today," she said.
"He said simply 'if they didn't do what they did, we would not be here today'."
Students from across the region were heavily involved in the service. Attunga Public School student Bianca Thompson gave the wreath citation, while Chelsea Willey from Carinya Christian School also made a speech. The captains from each school also presented a wreath.
Ms McCarthy also thanked the Tamworth community for supporting the sub-branch's poppy appeal in the lead up to Remembrance Day.
