A DESIRE to explore a new sport has inspired Alicia Guest to try her hand at women's nines with the South West Robins.

A determined soccer player for Tamworth FC during the winter months, Guest began her nines journey with the Robins two years ago.
The 20-year-old said a friend from school encouraged her to get involved with the club.
"I didn't really know too much about nines or how to play when I first got to the Robins," Guest told the Leader.
"However, everyone at the club has been really welcoming and taught me so much about the game.
"I still love soccer but every off-season I can't wait to get out there and play nines with the Robins."

A long-time soccer player, Guest was part of FC's runner up team earlier in the season.
"It was pretty disappointing to lose that grand final to North Companions," she said.
"We were really competitive with them throughout the season, but would often just fall a bit short.
"Luckily, we had a great group of girls and if we can keep that group together we could be a good chance to go on better next year."
The disappointment of a grand final loss is what has spurred Guest on to help the Robins achieve success during the nines season.
"I think winning our first game last weekend will have given our group a lot of confidence," she said.
"This weekend is the final round of the season and I'm sure we will be really keen to finish on a high.
"If we do the basics well I'm sure we will be competitive."
Also a referee, Guest said she "loved being involved" in local sport.
"I've been playing soccer since I was a kid and I've been a ref for a few years now," she said.
"I can't really imagine not being involved with sport in some way.
"I just love it."
