Jonathan Ian Haines is behind bars after he allegedly ran from police when they tried to arrest him in South Tamworth in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police allege he first approached the victim in Larool Street about 9.30pm on Tuesday.
He's alleged to have pulled a knife on the woman and made a number of threats before fleeing the area.

About 3am on Wednesday, police allege there was a further confrontation between Haines and the woman when Haines returned to the Larool Street address.
When Haines spotted police, officers claim he fled the scene. He was chased and was arrested a short time later in the Margaret Street area.
Haines was taken to Tamworth police station and charged with armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
He was refused bail in an out-of-sessions hearing in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday and ordered to remain in custody until next week.
Police said investigations are continuing.
