McCann (New England) has been named in the NSW State boys, Constable (New England) the NSW State girls and Mitchell (Tamworth) the NSW Blues girls teams to play at the Australian Indoor Hockey Festival in Wollongong early in the new year.

It was a weekend of mixed results for their respective sides at Niagara Park.

McCann's New England boys side claimed the silver in Division 2 after going down to Goulburn 3-1 in their final.

Playing in Division 1, Mitchell's Tamworth side finished out of finals contention with just the one win - a 2-1 victory over Constable's New England side. They also had a tough weekend with a 2-all draw with Manning Valley their best result.

The Tamworth boys meanwhile overcame a horrible start - they were beaten 9-nil in their opening game - to be in the finals reckoning.

After bouncing back to beat Grafton 3-2 and drawing 1-all with Manning Valley, they went into their final Division 1 pool game against Parkes in a position to finish top two in their pool.

But they couldn't get the job done, disappointingly going down 3-nil.

"We were certainly capable but we didn't take our opportunities," coach Garry Littlejohns said.

They did have a few things go against them over the weekend.

"We lost our main striker Ben O'Connor with a broken finger at the start of the second day," Littlejohns said.

"That cost us. We didn't have any punch up front."

Their goalie was also struck down with gastroenteritis.

All things considered, Littlejohns was happy with the way they played and their effort.

"Collectively as a group they all tried hard," he said.

"We had a very young and inexperienced side."

Only three of the side were top age and they had a couple of under-13s in there.

Littlejohns said they stood up really well and predicts they will "be firing" for the under-13s championships in a couple of weeks.
