While the multi million dollar Cox Plate is the feature race at the Moonee Valley meeting in Melbourne the GJC is racing too after Armidale Jockey Club transferred its regular Cox Plate day meeting due to lack of water and the drought.
GJC president Kevin Edmonds said the club had received good support for its first Cox Plate day meeting.
"The nominations aren't too bad for our first time," Edmonds said of the 82 nominations for the six Country TAB races.
"We've never raced on Cox Plate day before, it's always been held at Armidale but we will have a good day."
He said the Gunnedah track will be in good shape too.
"We've been pumping the water on," he said.
"Shane (Hunter and North West Racing association chief steward Shane Cullen) will be over here tomorrow (Wednesday) to check as well."
The meeting will be the third for new secretary manager Lyn Tongue.

She was amongst the 40,000 at Randwick for last Saturday's Everest and helped Armidale owners Jim Dedes, Gary Russell and Harley Payne celebrate their huge win with Yes Yes Yes.
"It was unbelievable," Tongue said.
"The crowd was outstanding. That three "locals" were part of the winning syndicate was great too."
She said it is disappointing the Armidale Jockey Club has had to transfer its meetings because of the drought but looking forward to Saturday's six-race meeting.
"The track will be good, as good as can be expected with a couple of hundred roos on it every afternoon," she laughed.
"It's going to be a great day with the Cox Plate. We're hopeful of getting a good crowd too. The noms have been a bit light on but that's only to be expected with Muswellbrook on today (Tuesday), Scone on Friday and the Coonabarabran Cup on Sunday."
"The noms for Coona are good too. They should have a great day too. So there's going to be a fair bit of racing in the next week or so."
While Gunnedah received 82 nominations the Coonabarabran Jockey Club received 148 for Sunday's Cup meeting, 20 of which were for the $75,000 Coonabarabran Cup (1600m), 22 for the $35,000 Cup Day Sprint (1100m) and 19 for the $40,000 Baradine Cup (1400m), a benchmarked 66 handicap.
