At the same time, a woman - one of two survivors in the blaze - is still clinging to life in hospital. She remains in a critical condition at a specialist burns unit in Sydney.

Neither can be identified for legal reasons after police and a Legal Aid solicitor applied for a suppression order on the case late on Friday in Tamworth Local Court.

The names, ages, connection to the accused and any other information that tends to identify the two deceased and two survivors cannot be published as part of the court order.

He was transferred to a Sydney hospital by ambulance late on Friday for specialist treatment. It's understood he suffered burns in the fire before he presented to officers at Tamworth Police Station on Thursday morning.

He's charged with the murder of a young boy and a woman in the fire that detectives allege he deliberately lit at the Tamworth house shortly before 5.30am.

He remains under a 24-hour guard at the hospital after being refused bail on Friday morning in a bedside hearing by magistrate Julie Soars.
