THE council has unveiled new plans for the CBD including the first vision for the future of current city pool site.
The council will vote on a draft masterplan for Bicentennial Park at this week's meeting.
The plan is designed to meet the needs of the "growing city" over the next 20 years.
The draft plan includes decommissioning the Olympic pool on the corner of the Oxley Highway and Kable Avenue and redeveloping the site.
It would become a pavillion with green space, as well as an outdoor cafe and dining space.
It could also become a new performance space with areas set aside for stages.
With plans for the region and city to grow beyond 100,000 population ... this park's importance to the city will only become more critical.TRC manager of sport and recreation Paul Kelly
In May 2017, the council resolved "to sell the two existing swimming pool sites in Tamworth after the new aquatic centre became operational".
Under the draft plan, Number One Oval will become a "boutique sports venue".
It will "provide infrastructure for large events and concerts" and could attract "improved amenities and change rooms".
In his report to council, manager of sport and recreation Paul Kelly noted the area had seen a resurgence in use since the establishment of the new playground in 2016.
"With plans for the region and city to grow beyond 100,000 population, which will include CBD residential living, this park's importance to the city will only become more critical," Mr Kelly's report said.
"It is therefore timely to incorporate a planned approach to the future of Bicentennial Park and develop a masterplan for its embellishment over the coming 20 years."
The draft plan also includes suggestions to increase access to the shores of the Peel River, including possible kayak launching areas and "a beach".
The draft plan, drawn up by consultancy firm Insite Emla, highlighted potential "medium density residential" areas slated for Kable Avenue.
These medium density buildings would mean the council would "facilitate the relocation of car yards in Kable Avenue to a more appropriate locations in the city".
If the draft plan is approved, it will go on public exhibition for 28 days.
