Organisers are putting together teams for an opening round date of November 24, and one of them, William Weller, said they wanted to "create that inclusivity".

Working on the plan with Cricket NSW, Mr Weller said it was another avenue for people to get active and socialise.

"I play soccer as well as cricket, and it is quite often very difficult to be 'out' in those kind of places," he said.

"It's really difficult to turn around and say 'I'm gay' or 'I'm transgender' ...

"To come out to people is often hard, so this is a way to bring them into our world and let them see that we're just regular, normal people who like playing sport and like being active."

Organisers are aiming to have four or five teams of about six to eight people - "just a relativity small cup comp to start with, then if we can generate interest in Armidale or Gunnedah, places like that [to] make it a regional competition".

"A few people asked: 'Can straight people play?' and I said 'Of course' - we want our allies to come down and do stuff with us as well," Mr Weller said.

Brad Smith will be one of the players - he admits he's not really a sporting type and has never played cricket but is all for the idea.

"It's all about creating opportunity for everybody with different interests and just showing there are things out there for everybody," he said.

"[It's about] learning a new game, meeting some new people and just the social aspect of it."
