Tamworth has been promised a new Banksia Mental Health Unit, however a price tag is yet to be put on the upgrade.
Hunter New England Health (HNEH) is finalising its Clinical Services Plan, which will lay the groundwork for future mental health facilities.
"[We've had] consultation with over 350 staff, patients and community members, which will inform the direction of mental health services and enhancements across the district," HNEH mental health services general manager Leanne Johnson said.
"Any specific planning for an improved Banksia Unit will be undertaken in the context of Clinical Service Planning for the entire mental health service."
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson will soon meet with NSW Mental Health Minister Bronnie Taylor for an update.
