A PRISON inmate was in hospital on Tuesday night with serious injuries and officers have seized a razor blade after an incident in Tamworth court.

Authorities said the 23-year-old inmate injured himself in the dock after a sentencing hearing in Tamworth Local Court about 3pm.
Ambulance NSW confirmed it received multiple emergency calls from police, Corrective Services and members of the public after an inmate suffered an injury in the dock.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and treated the man, who had serious wounds.

He was taken to Tamworth hospital under escort by Corrective Services officers, as well as police, in a stable condition.
A Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said an official investigation by both police and Correctives was under way.
"A 23-year-old inmate has been taken to hospital after he cut himself during a court appearance in Tamworth around 3pm [on Tuesday afternoon]," she said.
"Corrective Services NSW and NSW Police are investigating the incident including how the inmate was in possession of the weapon, which is believed to be a razor blade.
"There were no injuries to staff. All officers involved will be offered counselling."
The Leader understands the incident occurred after the inmate, who was bail-refused and seated in the dock for his court case, was sentenced for an assault.
A spokesperson for Justice NSW said it was a Corrective Services incident.
Investigations are continuing into the matter.
