COUNCILLORS have voted to give Paul Bennett five more years as Tamworth Regional Council's general manager.

In a closed-meeting vote, the councillors extended Mr Bennett's contract to September 2025.
The mayor Col Murray said Mr Bennett was a popular GM.
"I think that is good news for the city," Cr Murray said.

Mr Bennett first took the reins at Tamworth in 2010.
According to the NSW government council comparison site, the Tamworth's GM has a remuneration package worth $338,000.
The general manager did not seek "to renegotiate the current remuneration as part of entering a new contract".
The next five-year contract will be "performance-based" and will have the same remuneration package.
Mr Bennett's current contract expires in September 2020.
