THE Lions Recycle for Sight project keeps an eye out for people in need.
Already the Peel Valley Lions Club has recycled 2000 pairs of glasses to give the gift of sight to hundreds around the world.
Be they Dame Edna Everage or aviator style, the glasses have been washed, graded and packaged up by selfless Lions Club members.
For four months, volunteers have been busy using the lensometer machines in between making cups of tea and coffee at the Tamworth Driver Reviver pit stop.
Club president Julie Fleck said it was Michael Heckrotte who jumped on board with the project and got everyone involved.
"The humanitarian organisations take these glasses," Ms Fleck said.
"We're talking about children who can't read the blackboard because they can't see what the teacher is teaching them; mothers and fathers who can't support their families because they can't contribute.
"There's so many people around the world without access to these resources and this is a way to reduce the impact on landfill as well."
