The new season will mark the first time in three seasons the top-order batsman will not captain the side.
Instead, fast bowler Adam Greentree will guide the squad, with Rixon supporting him in the leadership group.
"I think it is probably a good time to get a few fresh ideas into the captain's role," Rixon told the Leader.
"It will probably good for me to focus on my game a little bit more and freshen things up a bit.
"Adam will do a great job and I'm really looking forward to still being a leader within the side, and helping out where I can."

Rixon said he was confident many of the club's up-and-coming players "could step up this season".
"We had a really good atmosphere around the club last year, and with the Courts at East coming on as a new sponsor, I'm sure that will continue," he said.
"I'm pretty sure our young wicket-keeper Henry Smith will be going around again.
"However, we will be without Jayden Tasker this season, as I think he is playing in Inverell due to work.
"All up, though, I think we are shaping up pretty well."
Rixon said the team's main focus would be consistency.
"We played some really good games last season, but we also played some poor games as well," he said.
"With that in mind, I think we will all be working on putting in a consistent performance week in and week out. If we can do that, I have no doubt we will be competitive this season."
