The annual Firefighters Climb for MND event is coming up in November, and will see firefighters from all over the state race up the 1504 steps of the Sydney Tower Eye, in full kit, and carrying 22 kg of equipment.

Since 2015 the event has raised over $2 million for MND research, and for Tamworth climber Jason Lee, who will take on his second climb this year, the cause and the challenge are too hard to resist.

"I had heard about the climb for a few years, and with Tamworth being a bit of a hotspot for MND - there is a lot springing up around here, and it's pretty rough - it sounded like something we could really get behind," Mr Lee said.

"There is also a great bit of friendly competition involved to see who can get up the tower first, and who can raise the most money."

On October 11 the climbers will be holding a fundraising event at the Southgate Inn, where "a couple of thousand dollars" worth of prizes will be raffled off, as well as plenty of other entertainment and fundraising fun.

Shirts are also available for purchase at ASN Tamworth, with all proceeds going to the cause.

So far the 2019 climb has raised more than $240,000 for the Macquarie University Research Centre.
