The third edition of the national competition kicks off in Brisbane this weekend.
New Lions head coach Inge Visser is excited about the potential of the squad and hopeful they can break into the top four for the first time.
"I will be aiming for top four this year," Visser said.
The former Dutch international has swapped the boots for the coaching pad after being part of the Lions squad the past two years, a move she described as a natural progression.
"My background is in PE teaching and I've been coaching almost as long as I've been playing rugby," she said.
This year's squad boasts a lot of new faces with only a handful of the wider 24 involved last year, but is brimming with natural and raw talent.
"I'm really happy with the talent that we've got," Visser said.
"We've got a really good attacking team. We've got a bit of speed and quite a bit of size as well."
"I reckon we'll go well."

She added that they mightn't have the flashest names on paper but "have a group of hard-working girls".
As Rhiannon Byers proved last year, the competition can be a springboard into the national set-up. On the back of her outstanding form the former Warialda High student was signed to a development contract, which then led to a full time Australian rugby sevens contract.
Byers will suit up for the Lions again this year, but as one of their allocated Australian players. Alicia Quirk is the other and will join the likes of Pirates duo Phoebe McLoughlin and Sophie Barr, and Narrabri captain Daisy Robinson in the lime green and black.
Visser spoke of a big focus on culture this year, and really building that team culture.
"The girls can play rugby. It's more about having camaraderie," she said.
"I'm really happy with what we've created. We've created a safe and supportive environment."
They have had a chance to get a bit of a look at a few of their rivals in the lead-up, playing trial games against Bond, Sydney University and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
UTS are one of their opponents in Brisbane. They will also face University of Queensland, the University of Canberra and University of WA.
Byers is the only of the northern contingent named for this weekend although Pirates' Miah O'Sullivan is set to make her debut for Bond University.
Following the Brisbane leg, the series then moves onto the Gold Coast (September 28-29), Adelaide (October 12-13) before finishing in Canberra on October 26-27.
