To mark World Suicide Prevention Day the local team, led by program officer Kerryn Smith, not only filled stomachs, but even made a few referrals from the stall at Bunnings.

"We wanted to focus on tradies and farmers, and have really noticed that people are starting to be more open about mental health," she said.

"Times are changing - it is happening slowly, but it is happening."

The Healthwise crew had a series of flyers and information addressing myths and common questions in regards to mental health and suicide, as well as information about services such as the self-referral program for farmers.

The program was brought in 12 months ago this week, and allows farmers to self-refer for counselling and services, bypassing the need to see a GP.

"For farmers taking that step out means no waiting for an appointment, and no cost," Ms Smith said.

"Forms can be found on our website, or referrals can be made over the phone - it is all part of our increased capacity for drought."

On Thursday Healthwise will join multiple other services on Peel Street for R U OK Day.
